its called a OWMCR or OffWorldMechanicalColonistReplacement, a android designed to Cary out science and mundane tasks on atmosphere-less or low gravity worlds. Many however never reached the cosmos, the era that ended as soon as it began, many of them integrating into society as a lower class.
