Something I've wanted to portray for some time with Phantom is his interesting association with corvids. Most specifically, ravens. Even Phantom, at first, had no idea why every time he visited the Mortal Realm, there would be at least several ravens just watching him from afar. It wasn't until one visit to a forest during fall, when a whole flock surrounded him. And unanimously decided he was their leader. Since then, he's formed a very close bond with any and every raven he's encountered. He'll often visit the Mortal Realm just to feed them, talk, and even sing to them.

In turn, the ravens will bring him various trinkets as gifts and will even mimic his own singing back. As well as repeat multiple phrases he's said to them in both French and English. He’s saying “Hello pretty bird” in French.

This piece was especially fun for me to work on solely because ravens are my top three favorite birds. Something about a bird so intelligent it can talk, sing, and remember who wronged them or showed them kindness is amazing. Plus, they're just gorgeous animals. I love to read stories of times where people were kind to a corvid and they made a friend for life. Or, people who were mean and had entire generations of crows or ravens that attacked them in revenge.
