Sorry for my vague phrasing. You're right, 'bad ass' has variety of meanings.

I used it here because the shark character looks like a person who is very confident with her abilities and skills. She also looks like who has no worry to get her hands dirty (oil, snoot, you know, while fixing/maintaining her aircraft), but she still has the women-ish grace to keep herself clean after that. It's a good balance, I love it.
Also her somewhat rough hairstyle, but it still has some grace, the braided part.
She also sits on the snoot of her aircraft, which also shows she could have a carefree personality. Not too dangerous, but also not the appropriate place to sit. She could have a good common sense.

All of this made me to call her 'bad ass'. The good balance and the coolness of hers!

I may be wrong, I know. Because I don't know her backstory nor her bio. But the visual suggests me all of these about her.
