I always imagined this sort of thing was a problem for kitsune, dragon spirits and other assorted youkai in human disguise. But I never thought through HOW they'd hide their tails. The baggy shirts make sense, and a warm inside pocket would be a necessity in the winter. A tail would be just like any other extremity - it'd get cold in a hurry from exposure if not protected.
