But Madeline was running ahead with joy, and like a child waving her arms and looking back at her husband with a sly look, as if savoring their future walk around the city, as well as all the possible gifts that Mark was ready to buy her.

I love her dress, her fun character, and this her look back when she checks if Mark was not too far behind.
And of course, she can convince him to buy her anything - she has her own ways.

sethtriggs For which I am very grateful for his help in portraying all this - because without his vision and pictures I would never have been able to tell this story. He really did a lot for me.

If normal regular morphs were created as toys or slaves. Protomorphs were created as companions (also for intimacy), as secretaries, and as bodyguards for really wealthy people. (This was the very beginning of genetic research, and morphs were still not too common at those times.)
Also, our dear Madeline was supposed to be an ideal woman with high intelligence, high physical strength, and endurance, as well as the reflexes of a professional soldier.
But during generations, something went wrong...
Madeline is really difficult to call a 'biological weapon - she is a cheerful and funny woman, very smart, very strong, and can also see in the dark and hear more than an ordinary human.
I don't know what the genetic engineers were doing there - so maybe the cat too...
