Born roughly about nine months after egg implantation, having hatched internally about three months prior to birth. Newborn Xenolings are commonly soft, segmented larva-like creatures. Their chitin will not harden until several days after birth, often ensuring the delivery is a rather blissful experience for their host. In this vulnerable state, they lack any of the shape-shifting powers of an adult, and will only feed upon the milk of their host, suckling like a mammalian baby.
Growing rapidly, their eyes will soon open, and before long they will molt out of their first layer of chitin. The mature Xenoling is far more ferocious than the newborn. In this far more snake-like state, they will commonly take on a role equivalent to a constricting serpent. Eating anything they can fit in their maws whole in order to fuel their rapid growth. Social tendencies are often lacking in this more animalistic phase of life, yet it has been noted that the xenolings always maintain a loving bond with a host, regardless of age. To reinforce this bonding, they will often communicate with chipping sounds, similar to baby crocodilians. It has been observed that they do this form before birth, often making a host's belly very noisy.
In summary, the initial phases of a Xeno-drake’s life start off rather vulnerable. Before developing into a far more predatory form, capable of consuming prey easily as large as they are. This is all to fuel their future metamorphosis into an adult.
