Character

Kyrashu is a Kalasian, a species who's not a member of the Federation, but has kept friendly ties with them nonetheless. He has been on a cultural exchange program for years, serving on several different ships from different species throughout the years. However, the Pioneer was more interesting than any of his previous assignments. The enormous cultural and biodiversity of the Terrans on board, as well as other alien crew members fascinated him, and he has been continuously trying to come up with any excuses to tell to his Kalasian superiors in order to prolong his stay on the ship.

Fitting in with the crew wasn't an easy process; most crew members had to get used to his main head being his lower head, not his upper one, which annoyed him when people were ignoring it when they spoke to him, but has build some tolerance for it throughout the years. He's a well respected member of the engineering team, and he treats machines as if they're living beings. It's a common Kalasian belief that everything has a spirit, though Kyrashu beliefs only assigns spirits to things that are somewhat animate. He can get very angry at his colleagues handling their technology carelessly. Kyrashu was also one of the first crew members that accepted Holly's personhood, long before she was declared to be sentient.

Kyrashu is a lover of good cuisine from whatever planet it may come, and often shares his meal with colleagues aboard, even those who he barely knows (though this is a common Kalasian custom). He loves to share stories, and can ramble on for hours if someone doesn't cut him off. He often gets into philosophical debates with Lydia and Jost when they get together for a meal.

Kalasians are one of these odd looking species that fascinate me. Enough for me to create one of my own as a part of the crew of the Pioneer, and he's already taking over some work in Turash-Kae's absence for a few episodes.
