I can't tell whether they're fighting, sparing, posing or some combination of all three. Given how brutal some dragons can be the things are probably very interrelated.
As for the picture itself, it looks pretty great. Their anatomy looks amazing to look at and very majestic and I like the juxtaposition between the two halves of the image and the times they presumably represent.
