The early Paul Simon songs were amazingly poetic. I used to bring his lyrics to the attention of English teachers and they often agreed.
The metaphors of a sexual nature were quite amazing. Calling the tunnel a "stony womb" and calling the subway train a "carriage" intended to meet the "groom".
Then the religious nature of his crayon, calling it a "rosary".
And it ends with him seeking "the breast of darkness" to be "suckled by the night".
He never has to say the word, but the word is obvious.
It is a marvelous work of poetry.
