Is no one going to even try to imply that a hug from a cactus might hurt? Or is there something about the one getting hugged that would make the painful thorns a non-issue?

Sakura is not your normal being, she is her own species due to something that happened in her past that made her that way. In this sense she is both a plant and more rigid form of a goo being (hence the gel) and neither as the division is so blurred that had me thinking of how to denominate her properly and failing. That said this form has that this same characteristic, her thorns being rubbery and blunt rather that spiky and rigid, the name of this form implies it. only when she is in real danger those thorns hurt and damage.

As for lexia's side, even if sakura wanted to hurt her, lexia super strong skin has three features that renders her thorns useless. one her skin is naturally risillient since her natural habitat is always attacking her body with extremes. wether is heat or cold or pressure or even a predator trying to bite, she developed a thick layer of skin. to pierce it you must need extreme force to punch through and even then once she takes out the intrusion, her cut will be regenerated pretty fast to fend off any microbiological invasion to her body. Hope this helps clear some things up. oh i forgot that it has some elasticity as well.
