So I'm confused, I love the comic but what exactly is happening? Like did he catch a transformation from Topher? Did he already have it but it was stimulated? What is the transformation and what caused it? I'm just curious because it's been talked about like he accidently caught a transfur disease and he has to choose to clear it up before going back to normal life or live with it. But it also seems like a kink thing which then how did he get it?
So far it's unclear how the transformation thing works. I would guess that it's akin to being a furry in real life, except much more literal. So likely there's a combination of "always was" and "it's considered kinky to be". I think it's likely that he's always had it and being around Topher just stimulated it. Hopefully
throatspit will eventually explain it.

It's not really important how it literally works, it's metaphor. Some things don't really matter when it comes to the themes of a story- in this world people who are furry go full furry when they express that part of themselves. It's clearly a thematic element meant to express how people embrace the queer parts of themselves and literally become the person they truly are vs the human façade. The "making the transformation permanent with cum" is clearly both another metaphor for sexually embracing that part of yourself, as well as just a fun kinky plot point meant for personal amusement, which is 100% valid and fun.
This is the same thing as like asking "where do the aliens come from" in the movie Annihilation- like, it doesn't matter where they come from, they're a device to get you to think about the deeper themes of the movie, about change and how when we change, the 'us' we know dies and another 'you' walks out of it, different from the experience. The Aliens Never Mattered. Similarly here, The Mechanics on How You Become Furry, do not matter.
I appreciate the response but it's a little mean to come off really defensive and saying "who cares you don't need to know." I'm not one to read into things deeper meanings, so when a creator has some world building that seems really cool and creative and seems to have logic behind it, as a curious reader I wanted to know more about the fun little things the creator made behind the scenes but wasn't able to or purposefully left out to be revealed later. Again while kind of mean spirited, I do appreciate your own theory on the matter. Thank you.
I apologize, Wolfy, I didn't mean to come off as mean. I'm not saying "Who cares you don't need to know" and more saying that, as far as the story is concerned, it's not really the point. By all means, try and find some logic behind it, I'm not saying you shouldn't. It was not my intention to belittle or make you feel bad in any way.
I can certainly see that, but I just didn't think this was the answer simply because it seems in this comic being gay isn't generally looked down upon so its not really the center piece if that makes sense. Like as a metaphor you would see this transfur -alongside- queer discrimination and not just a straight up replacement. Thats just my opinion however, so that's why I was just curious!
