Oh yeah, I love the way it looks. Been playing it a lot recently.
The difficulty does ramp up a lot with a lot of the bosses. I've had a few that I barely managed to beat, and some that I could only beat by bringing in larger enemies to start infighting. The Duke is the only one that's completely stomped me every time. Had to just fight the ones past him and will come back later.

He unlocks the medium coin pouch and the ability to forge your own coins. He's not as necessary as someone who gives major crafting materials or the next level of armor and weapons, but it's nice to clear the boss list and be able to make your own money without having to scavenge for it.
And yeah, toad form isn't needed, but the jumping does help with navigation in a few areas.
