We can imagine this is a younger version of Emmet. Judging from the plans and paper scraps lying about, he's in the process of digging out a new burrow—maybe the very one he lives in now.
One thing about him hasn't changed, though: his crepuscular work habits. That's the sun rising behind him.
I've always had this vague idea that Emmet has an obsession with collecting timepieces. There's a hint of that happening here. Maybe, even now, he has a nagging fear of "running out the clock."
[ This was the very first version of my fursona Emmet. He didn't have a ref sheet or a formal backstory back then, so this was based on a text description of some ideas I had at the time. Even so, it came out wonderfully! ]

It's nice when a fursona can evolve, both on their own and along with you. I like the idea that they have "lives" of their own that reflect their own artistic evolution.
For instance, I used to think that the Emmet in this piece was just an obsolete iteration of the character. But since he "became" the current Emmet, wouldn't it be more interesting if there were a story behind that? What gears are starting to turn in his head that led him to become the semi-mad inventor who exists today?
