VICTORIAN CENTURY
V.C. 1122
The blazes within the space colony grew with burning smoke that begun to spread throughout the entire space station, the sun started to rise with more militia troops regrouping taking on the last few federation machines that stood in their path on destroying all who lived in peace at Island Eleven. It was an horrible scene of the never-ending massacre that took place over the nights when the war was brought here to the colony, and to everyone's home.
The protagonist runs in the midst of combat, his royal guard in her macro knight armour battling the federation's enemy, the kingdom militia soldiers who rampaged and unwinding their rage on those who had no arms.
''The ash fell softly, the night was bitter cold. The fire in the evening sky was like the morning sun, But alas it was not so. The crash which came with a thundering blast, the blood dripped from the stars. They were so young and so brave, Their lives had just begun.. They were elite, and a credit to us all, But they never saw the light of day. For them, the night was over. Nothing is left, only sadness.. Words of comfort have no meaning at all.. What is the reason for this madness? Why can’t we be like them, the others? To live our lives with peace of mind, No wars to send our children to. Let us pray for a lasting peace.''
COMMISSION NOTES
Upon completion, this drawing immediately became my benchmark. For the next six months I tried to recreate the the feeling I got from this---that everything came together, that I had found the 'look' I wanted.
One of the advantages that Astro gave me was the variety of color in all the characters' designs. I like a certain balance of color. You can make everything monochrome, but the image will feel too intense, too dreamlike. With the introduction of another hue--maybe even neutral white, gray, and black--the color gets a sense of flesh, that is, a sense of groundedness for that intensity.
I tried starting with a red wash here, thinking of the last scene I did with Astro. It came out alright, but I didn't really find the picture until I started with yellow. That created a great ground for the contrast with the characters' red and blue. I was also able to utilize a "watercolor" brush to great effect in laying out the scene. Everything else was retouched, but you can detect that initial watercolor in the background smoke.
