This was a "Create your own Dinosaur" competition I entered on a Youtuber known as Nappn 's discord. I was sooo proud of this entry and the ideas that I was able to come up with for this creature.
Below I can throw in the lore I made to come up with this guy! Enjoy! <3
Scientific Name: Larum Lacerta
Common Name: Seadactyl
Name meaning: "Seagull Lizard"
Seadactyls are not very large among dinosaurs, but they are around the size of a Wandering Albatross in modern day.
These Beach dwelling Pterosaurs nest and live among beach cliffs and rocks, their eggs and chicks being dark in color to blend into their surroundings. As the hatchlings become older and are ready to set off on their own, their downy feathers will slowly molt off becoming smooth scales that provide excellent aerodynamics for flying and diving.
As mentioned these pterosaurs catch their prey by diving into schools of fish from the air. Their webbed feet and Fin-like tail help with maneuvering quickly in the water to snatch prey. Elongated mouths and sharp needle like teeth aid in the ability to grab and hold onto fish. Seadactyls will also occasionally feed on crabs and other sea life when the opportunity arises.
Males and Females are Sexually dimorphic, with males being slightly larger and possessing frills and waddles on their necks. During courting the males will position themselves with with their heads facing upwards and spreading out their frills as large as they can. Females will choose among the males depending on their display. Most Seadactyls will always pair for life, but if a mate is lost, they can pair again in the next season.
The display colors of Seadactyls is most commonly orange, but can also come in shades of red, pink, and yellow. Their display color will always match with the eye color, and mouth color of the individual. They wil always be white-ish in color, with black necks and wing tips. The white spot on the neck is also always common, even in hatchlings.
