I sadly couldn't make this story sit in my head well enough to write the full thing.

They see more colors on the visible spectrum than humans (Humans see in 3 channels of color: Red, Green & Blue, while the mantis shrimp sees through 12 channels of color) and I believe they can see Ultra Violet and Polarized light, which are on the range of the energy band humans can't see with the naked eye.
So if a Mantis shrimp calls you ugly, they are clearly seeing more than you in the matter. Or they're an asshole.

Or at the very least, anthro Mantis shrimps would have vastly different standards of beauty. Something they consider ugly might not be so two other anthros even in the case of being something the other answers can see either normally or through technology or via some other means.
