I can say that they aren't particularly popular with city folk, most people I know that have eaten Saúvas (another name for tanajura) associate it with childhood memories of living in the countryside. Someone from a more metropolitan area could still have gripes with eating bugs
Additionally, Saúvas are typically prepared by removing the butt and cooking it, so the whole ant or going at it raw would prolly be unfamiliar ground to our recently awakened fella too

Loss of identity is a horror that comes in many forms. Experiencing this existential dread and surviving it is something that I don't think I could do. Sometimes when people say "I'd rather die than..." they mean it literally. Though, I know nothing of this character, they seem stronger and more capable of accepting this than I would be. The sudden loss of.... everything... would be more than many, myself included, could bear.
