So he would fail the paint spot test? A common test in child development, the child (or animal in some cases) has a spot of paint put on their forehead and are then shown a mirror. If the child has developed to the point of self-recognition, they will reach up to the paint spot from their forehead either to wipe it off or see if they can put it anywhere else. A cool documentary I saw on TV nearly a decade ago did the test on a group of orangutangs and the eldest one in the group seemed to pass as he looked in the mirror and then reached up and wiped the paint spot off in one swipe.
