Even brave adventurers need some good rest and a hot meal in the evening, after a hard day of travelling, dungeon crawling and dealing with horrible monsters!
This is a D&D-themed "Big Monster" tier commission for
xanderh, AwwShuck on Twitter and
Shalak, featuring their respective characters from left to right: River, Shuck and Jip.
It took me months to finish this commission (work and life got in the way quite a bit), but everyone has been super patient and just amazing with me the whole time, so working on this project has truly been an absolute pleasure for me.
Personally I have to say I'm extramely happy with how this work turned out. I feel this is one of the best colored drawings I've completed this year, especially in regard to light effects: they turned out just as I imagined them, which is quite a rare occurrence! ^^
Anyway, hope you enjoy this! ^^

When I was still fairly young, there was a fad for children's books with extremely simple stylised illustrations. They were boring as fuck and anybody with any sense could see how children preferred rich drawings full of narrative that they could journey into and find stories in.
Your art tends to remind me a little of that childhood sense of discovery and delight in stories with pictures which are themselves stories.

Another fine example of how much the details you put into a picture like this add to the overall beauty of a scene. The weapons, the clothes, the camp items: these alone would be enough to make an awesome picture. But you've got firewood, carrying packs, bugs and musical instruments on top of a gorgeous backdrop that truly looks like the wild woods I would expect these folks to inhabit. I'm once again greatly impressed by the sheer amount of care and effort you put into your work.
