i'd consider that an upgrade, considering in some cases he won't need identification to confirm who he is.
technically he won't just be a knight anymore, he can also be a spy. reasons
1. he can talk to the animals now, and you know how they love to gossip
2. as long as he has his friend with him, he can pass as just one of the "animals" so he can do 1.
3. wings... eye in the sky.

5. a get rich quick thing, hire a knight or archer , fly over a deep lake, have knight throw sword, or archer fire arrow close enough so they can catch the item and fake dieing, falling into the lake, get paid, repeat at every village and then wait a few years, rinse and repeat

This sat in my message center for so long because I wanted to comment on it -- right. High school me was *starved* for illustrations like this. People turning into big ol' four-legged dragons, just as nature intended but didn't get around to implementing.
