When in the process of drawing, I like to imagine what kind of anatomical features and lives my creatures could have. Doesn’t need to be too deep or definite, it’s mostly for fun. For example, I imagine these guys to be omnivores who prefer more plant base foods. They could depend more on breathing with their mouthes, maybe have somewhat of special structures in the oral cavity and adapted respiratory system. I think they would use this type of breathing in synch with nasal when running.
Feet and trunk are similar to ones that tapirs have, with trunk being very muscular and agile, capable to grab things. Also trunks are used as a sensory organ.
Their bodies gravitate to slim and lean build, coats are very short and wiry.
Fun detail: I imagine that they can grunt and puff maybe create somewhat of a purr even
