Bunnie Rabbot, Robian Advocate?
Robotnik is gone, and the world is rebuilding, but there is still much work to be done, as Robians come under fire for having been Robotnik's unwitting pawns, and fears arise that Robotnik may have some in-built contingency to utilize them against their will for one last violent dig at Sonic and his friends. Sally approaches Bunnie Rabbot to ask a very important question.
Just something rough for an idea that would have led to some awesome story-telling potential had Ian Flynn and Mike Pellerito not BUTCHERED 20+ years of lore out of spite for Ken Penders and de-roboticized Bunnie/ruined her backstory with that Genesis Wave arc schlock he wrote into Archie.
HEre is the full bit for those of you who can't, for some reason or another, open .doc files, despite the fact it's a staple piece of Windows software for the last 30 years:
"Bunnie?" Sally knocked on the rabbit's door. "Bunnie, are you home? I need to talk to you..."
It had been several months since Julian Robotnik had been killed by the Ultimate Annihilator, and Knothole was still locked half a second forward in time and therefore out of phase with the rest of mobius, the Great Tree Stump being the only means in and out of the village.
Things had been peaceful, but there were now whisperings of mistrust of Robians among the still-organic Mobians. Mobs of Mobians had been going around and beating up or destroying robians out of fear, led by small, loud groups of Anti-Robian activists.
Robians were being maimed or destroyed purely out of spite for what Robotnik had done, his victims looking for little personal victories to dull the sting of not being able to be the ones to do the despot in, so they used Robians as scapegoats. "Once a badnik, Always a badnik!" was the mantra being shouted at Robians in every public space.
Sally was aware of it all, and she was doing her best to quell any fears of the Mobian Populace, but few would listen.
Sally knew that there was at least ONE person who could mend the wounds, and provide a liason between Mobians and Robians, and that person was Bunnie.
Having been partially roboticized against her will as a child, and rescued last-second by Sonic, Bunnie had grown up with the negative stigma that came with Roboticization...that she could turn on them at any time. She had nightmares about it regularly. But instead of letting what Robotnik had done to her get her down, she had opted for the more optimistic, and poignant way of dealing with it; by using her weaponized body against Robotnik's machinations, helping the Freedom Fighters with her incredible reach, strength, risilience, and candor.
"Ah'll be Raght there, sug!" Bunnie said, then, shortly after, the door opened, and there was Bunnie, drying her hair, and wearing a loose-fitting t-shirt. "Sally-Girl!" She exclaimed happily, "What brings y'all at this hour of the night?" Sally looked troubled. "Somethin' on yer mind, Sug?" She asked, tilting her head a little to the left and watching Sally's body language. "I need to talk to you.." She said again, rubbing at her left arm. "May I come in?"
"Whah, Certainly, Sally! C'mon in!" And in Sally came. "Have a seat any-ol'-where!" She said, moving to grab her hairbrish and started to brush her hair while looking in the mirror.
"What brings y'all out here so late, Sal? Must be pretty important!"
"It is.." Sally said. "I need your help..KNOTHOLE needs your help..Oh, who am I kidding? The WORLD needs your help...much more than you may know.."
Bunnie set her brush down. "What's the matter, Sug?"
"..It's the Robians...No..not even them, really...it's the people who are afraid of them..."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean...." She sighed, looking out the window. "You've seen the news..the protests....People are afraid the Robians will turn on them..turn evil again and serve Robotnik...They're afraid he has some contingency plan lined up and waiting in the wings...Some are even convinced that the Robians are just "Sleeper Agents" waiting to be activated as a last-ditch effort to get a win after he kicked the bucket.."
Bunnie sat down next to her on the small sofa. "Yeah, Ah know, sug...it's disheartening, to say the least. We finally get rid of that fat ol' blubber-butt, and people are so traumatized by the last decade that they can't believe there isn't something more to it..."
"Exactly. Everyone's on edge..."
"So whah come to me?"
"Because, Bunnie...you...you're in a very unique position, Bunnie..."
"What d'y'all mean?"
Sally sighed, her shoulders drooping a bit, and she gently reached over and took Bunnie's mechanical hand in one hand, and her organic one in the other, lightly tracing the lines on the mechanical hand. "You're a cyborg, Bunnie...You are, for lack of a better term, locked in a sort of middle-ground between being a Mobian, and being a Robian...You've dealt with so much, you've come through so much and you've done so much for everyone around you...You turned something terrible that had been done to you into a sort of gift..a weapon AGAINST evil..."
Bunnie listened. She began to piece together where Sally was going with this fairly quickly. "So what are y'all askin' me, sug?"
Sally swallowed hard. "I don't want to put you on the spot...And you don't have to do this if you don't want to..but Knothole...the world..needs YOUR voice right now, Bunnie...Yours, and those like you...who've suffered through what Robotnik had done to you, and come out on the other side unchanged in all the ways that matter...you're still kind, stalwart, and helpful to those around you. You've never given up..even after your body needed to be rebuilt, you still persevered...The world needs someone like you...a voice that speaks for both Robians and Mobians...You could be their advocate for understanding, a better world, where Robians and Mobians alike can walk hand-in-hand with each other, without fear or prejudice..."
"Sug...Ah...Ah don't know...Ah wouldn't know what to say, or where to even start!"
"Please, Bunnie...do this for me? If I do it, there will be those who will not listen to me...but you, Bunnie? They'll listen to you. They know you. They've seen you fight on their behalf, both Mobian and Robian...they trust you. To most of them, I'm just a figurehead. They need a voice that resonates with them...you could be that voice, Bunnie..you could bridge the gap between Mobians and Robians!"
"W-Well, Ah mean...Phew..that's...quite a lot to take in, sug.." She said, then sighed as she looked over her own half-roboticized body. "Ah guess it couldn't hurt t' try, huh?"
Sally brightened up. "So you'll give it a try?"
"Well, sure, Sally-Girl! I mean, what could it hurt?"
Sally hugged Bunnie tightly, smiling, feeling like some weight had been taken off her shoulders.
"We'll write something up over the next few days..We'll give you some face-time with the press, and we'll start work immediately! The sooner, the better!"
And Sally headed for the door.
"Sally-Girl?"
"Yes, Bunnie?" Sally asked, stopping short and standing there with the door half-open already.
"Thank you...for believing in me."
Sally beamed again. "Always, Bunnie!" And she walked out, shutting the door quietly behind her.
Tomorrow would be a bright new day, with a bright new mission.
