This week's
Thursday_Prompt was 'pulp', and given 'noir' and 'pulp' are somewhat connected, I figured Mercedes would work for this one... and then I decided to play with multiple meanings of the term, because why not?
(And looking up words in other languages for new character names strikes again. Choctaw in this case.)

*checks name* Gee, no bias at all...
And Ehoro is a Savannah Hare partly because I made a reference to a 'good luck charm' in the second story I wrote with these characters, and then because I out that the Savannah Hare is (probably) the original inspiration behind Br'er Rabbit. Given a setting where the furry characters are generally spirits or shapeshifters of one sort of another, it made sense...

*laughs* No, nobody's tried pushing that on her yet.
And has Ehoro has pointed out in one of the previous stories, good luck in the long term doesn't necessarily mean good luck in the short term. Or necessarily good luck for the people around her that may end up taking the impact of bad events instead.

That's the best way to do lucky character, run them out of luck. Ex: That lucky rabbits foot can be good for kicking around criminal grunts and then be subjected to interrogation via tickle torture (Mercades may need a feather coated in silverdust due to being weak to silver bullets). 🪶 🐾 🤣
In the story where I introduced her, she managed to avoid getting caught up in a criminal raid of an underground fighting ring, which was good luck for her. Unfortunately the reason she didn't get caught up in it was that she'd twisted her ankle and couldn't go that night. And now she's not welcome back because some folks wonder if she was involved in the tip that caused the raid.
She has a bit of a love/hate relationship with her luck.

Honestly, writing someone with truly alien thought patterns is difficult, at least consistently. (Many writers manage it inconsistently because they're writing walking plot devices rather than actual characters, but we don't usually consider those good writers unless they're really good with other aspects.)
