Another attempt to redesign Bruthius and Greevo/Brutus and Gravel for my book. In the universe I'm writing, Rhinodillos have been replaced with Sefaru, which are rhino/zebra hybrids because the universe I'm writing already has an armadillo hybrid: the Armaguero. Plus, I want to concentrate the races in my book a bit more to make them feel less random and more thought out, so I picked two African animals for the Sefaru. The Sefaru in particular specialize in stamina and are able to travel long distances by foot without running out of steam, which is useful in a world where motorized vehicles are uncommon.
In the book I'm writing, the Sefaru Bros don't play a HUGE part in the story (with Tuffy never actually appearing) but they ARE an inspiration for Ricky that kickstarts his arc. Brutus and Gravel are both action TV stars who got their start as characters on a show Ricky liked watching known as Ellie Fantastic in order to start their own spin-off series. Ricky was always bullied for his weight and large belly, but when he saw how strong Brutus and Gravel were, he learned that he could use his weight as a strength. While not SUPER neccessary to my book, considering Ricky's other inspiration is Maya, who is a lot more relevant to the book, they do enchourage Ricky's mom to show him Tawbek Sumotoran Wrestling. Plus, I kinda want to give Brutus, Gravel and Tuffy their own book eventually.
I know their design is messy. I was trying to emulate a zebra's stripes, but I might have to simplify them in the future. Alright, now let's explain the current itteration of these three.
Brutus, or "Bahg Nahk Brutus," is basically the books version of a furry, as he enjoys dressing up as a tiger-like monster, and he also uses the paws of his costume as surprisingly effective grappling tools. They may not hurt so much to get punched by one, but Brutus typically isn't trying to hurt his opponents, which coupled with its grippy pads and grapply claws, are one of the reasons Brutus wears them in combat. Brutus has a rough exterior, but he's surprisingly calm and friendly towards people, especially his husband Gravel, though it does make him a bit submissive.
Gorgeous Gravel is the ranger of the three, constantly using rainbow bombs and goo to trap his prey to the floor or obscure their vision. He then uses his equally impressive strength to his advantage, though he's not as strong as Brutus. Gravel is very flamboyant, and may like the spotlight a bit too much. This effects both his husband and their adopted brother in the book.
Ten Ton Tuffy likes to incorporate weights, often using dumbells to shut off macheinery, barbells to trip people with, or even weightless bars as a combat tool. Tuffy was often picked on for his pink fur, which made him feel insecure and slightly homophobic before Brutus and Gravel adopted him and told him that he didn't need to be afraid of them, and that he could also make his own choices in life. Unlike his bros, Tuffy is straight, but he's grown accustomed to having gay guardians, saying that he wouldn't trade them away for straight parents no matter what.
