Learning about the closure of Volition honestly hurt me, its the company responsible for my all time favorite game series, Freespace, among other favorites. Their games have been with me since I moved all those years ago, being some of the first i played then too... Freespace blew me away when I first played it, I immediately fell in love with it and its sequel especially.
So heres a colored sketch of Mission 1 from Freespace 1 - I needed to draw something about this

Volition is gone?! wow... i am deeply saddened to hear this news. Freespace 2 is the gold standard that i hold all space sims up against and am often disappointed of modern sims because of it. Freespace was my childhood. and i am going to mourn this part of my childhood dying.
I am happy that the SCP is still a thing that is happening and will grant much future fun for me. but its still sad to hear. Rest in Peace Volition. No longer are you a husk of your former self.

Ironically, DESCENT 3 wasn’t made by Volition, but by a split off group from Interplay. Volition was the other side of the Interplay coin, hence why the first FreeSpace game went by the full name of DESCENT: FreeSpace. For me, when they were Interplay, their DESCENT and DESCENT II were the highlights of my childhood. FreeSpace was just the icing on the cake for me.
