"Dream Frare"
(links to pictures coming soon!)
The name of this species does not literally translate because I couldn't find the word for frog, however, in ancient Egypt the Frog goddess' name was "Heket" and "Un" stands for "hare." "R'sw-t" means "dream" which is where this animal was born, in one of my wacky dreams. This is the second species I've dreamt up, the first being the "R'sw-t M-bui."
Species: R'sw-t Un-eket
Classification: Amphibious-monotreme
DETAILS (Thus Far): Semi-aquatic, it begins its life as an egg hatching into a tadpole-like, hairless and blind larva that is strictly aquatic at this time with internal and external gills. Metamorphosis begins with the opening of the eyes, enlongating outer ears and hind leg development. In this polywog-like stage the lungs develop, ears continue to grow, eyes widen, tail begins to narrow and shorten and the front legs develop splitting the fin of the tail into hairs that grow thinner and bushier as the adolescent Un-eket matures. After all four legs have developed fur begins to grow along with two sets of incisors.
EYES: Fully frog-like.
EARS: Outer: Lagomorphic ears act as sound enhancers for the Inner: Amphibious ears.
MOUTH: Two sets of sharp retractable incisors that grow on both top and bottom jaws. They retract to allow for a quick long sticky tongue.
DIET: Omnivore; vegetation and small insects/arachnids
LEGS: Quadrupedal; short front limbs that set almost bow-legged on stockier frame. Long, powerful hind limbs make the Dream Frare not only fast and agile, but able to leap extraordinary distances.
FEET: Vary with the breed of Un-eket. Five long toes (webbed or partially webbed) on each foot that allow for climbing. May end in claws or suction cups.
MARKINGS/COLORATION: Depends on the breed. (Often brightly colored and marked with spots or stripes or both)
