I found out that a friend of my brother and I died in Iraq a couple of days ago. He died by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). It saddened me so much so that I decided to write this quick poem.
**Our Innocence**
What happened to the innocence?
Where did the playgrounds we used to play in go?
Replaced with miles of endless desert.
What happened to baseballs we used to throw around?
Replaced with hand grenades.
What happened to the bicycles we used to ride?
Replaced with tanks and hummers.
What happened to the tree forts we built?
Replaced with bases and camps.
What happened to our friends?
Replaced with our enemies.
What happened to love?
Replaced with hate.
What happened to life?
Replaced with death.
What happened to us?
War happened.
