The trio turned their heads to see a rather intimidating sight of five guards all clad in silver armour and helmets looking at them apart from who wore no helmet but a blue and silver collar which made him stand out from the rest of them. He also looked exactly like Taiyka. Could this be his brother she was talking about?
“You’ve been gone for almost a week. Do you know how worried you have made your parents?” he shouted.
“Enough for them to send your sorry butt after me,” was Taiyka’s snarky response.
“How dare you talk to me in such a way. You see this is what I’m always talking about. You are always so rude and disrespectful. Always causing problems. Always a letdown. Always a nuisance. Why can’t you use your skills for good, and actually be the cat your parents want you to be?”
“Shut up, Luasca!!!” Taiyka screamed at him all red and steaming, “You don’t think I’ve tried! Tried my hardest to be something I always wanted but my parents never acknowledged it. You know it’s true. They hate me. And so do you!”
“They don’t hate you. They just want what’s best for you. You think I got here by holding onto childish dreams and playing around. No!”
Luasca looked at Gyako and Erilia, but he looked more at Erilia with disgust.
“And they want you to stop hanging out with undesirable crowds. Like that defect over there. They won’t help you become who you truly are. They are a blight on this town and they will make you one too.”
Erilia hugged Gyako chest burying her face into his fur so nobody could see her shed a few tears.
“Who the hell is this guy,” Gyako thought to himself, “What kind of person can be so evil to make a little girl cry for no reason”
“Anyways,” Luasca continued, “We have come to bring you home. There you shall remain for the rest of the festival for some much-needed discipline.”
“No.” Taiyka protested with her arms crossed.
“No?” Luasca said, “You dare oppose the direct order of the Guard Leader.
“No, I oppose the dumb request of my dumb brother.”
Luasca looked at her with scorn and raised his paw prompting the other guards around him to seize her. They grabbed her by the arms and pulled her back.
“Hey, let go of me!” Taiyka demanded swiping her tail back and forth, trying to free herself. Luasca grabbed her as well to help further restrain her.
“Yeah, let her go!” Gyako started, looking to approach the guards, “She did nothing wrong.”
“Mind your own business outsider,” Luasca ordered him. “Unless you want to be arrested for meddling with authoritarian affairs.”
“Don’t worry about me Gyako,” Taiyka said, “They can’t do me anything. Take Erilia home for me please.”
Gyako looked at Luasca and the guards. They were ready to grab him if he tried anything. He looked at Taiyka. He looked at Erilia holding his chest. He decided to back down.
“Good kitten,” Luasca said all condescendingly towards him.
And with that, they lead Taiyka away. Gyako got down to Erilia’s level and wiped her eyes, gave her a little hug and some reassurance.
“Hey no, don’t listen to that bully, I’m sure you will be a very successful cat when you grow up. Right, how about I take you home?”
“I don’t want to go back,” Erilia cried, “I want to stay with you.”
Gyako was not sure about this. Surely the cats at the orphanage would want to know where she was. Or maybe not. It did seem like those in this town did not really care much for her. It was getting late in the afternoon as well now.
“Alright, you can stay with m-,” he was not able to finish his sentence as Erilia jumped on his back and hugged his head.
“Ack! Okay, I guess that's settled then. Let’s go find ourselves an inn.”
