So this is a better look at the creature I posted earlier. They stand maybe.... 5" to 10" tall on their feet, and their wings are larger in surface area than their body. Day time creatures, their eyes are poor at night, though even during the day, then rely heavily on their hearing through those large ears.
Diet is mainly insets, fruit, and nuts, whatever they can find. Actual meat is a very rare treat, since they are high energy creatures and can't normally spare the energy to hunt it down. Habitat is mainly forrests, both carniverous and deciduous (sp? xD; ), and they like to make their communial homes in abbandoned holes high up in trees. They use a mob-attack sort of approach to other creatures, so their homes aren't always abbandoned by choice of the former owners.
Their coloring tends toward natural browns, from very dark to white, usually in banded markings over their bodies with maybe some mottling on the wings. No, they don't wear clothes. What looks like it in this pic is this creature's markings.
They aren't asexual or hermaphrodite, but it is rather hard for the unpracticed eye to tell the difference between male and female. In their matriarchal society, a mother forms a band of her daughters and close female relatives, the ground lives all together in one large tree they've claimed. Males are reclusive and shy, rarely seen. Without the group to protect them from predators like large bird's of prey, they have to be cautious or they don't live long.
Odd colored creatures are also a rarety, and in this society, they are cherished, but also considered a curse on their family. The pair that bred to make the child are forbidden to breed together again, and the child itself is raised without ever being able to leave the home tree. Wings end up being stunted and small from not being used, and they rarely live the normal span of years. Odd colors aren't good for hiding from predators or for hunting, so they're a liability to the clan.
