This is our daughter's car... in the wrecking yard. She was hit by a SUV while making a turn.
She's mostly okay - cracked elbow, severe concussion. We spent all evening at the emergency room yesterday and we packed her off to our house so she could sleep under supervision. Today was spent dealing with insurance, retrieving things from the wrecked car, picking up her dog (she works as a dog trainer and was on the way to see a client when the wreck happened. Luckily her little dog was at the doggy day care (where she works) and not with her.
Her boss boarded little Izzy overnight. She was so happy to see Amy (and me. The dog's crazy about me. I think it's because I bribed her with puppichinos from Starbucks.) Amy's now home (her house) with bunches of microwaveable food, her dog, some meds.
I'm feeling a little bit drained but should perk up soon. This weekend hubby and I are going to Grand Canyon to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.
I am eternally grateful that we are not spending the weekend planning a funeral. Cars are replaceable. My children aren't.

She was fortunate.
Modern cars are designed to crumple and absorb the energy of impacts, instead of trying to tough it out.
it makes repair difficult, and sometimes impossible.
But to be honest?
If it were me, I'd happily take replacing the car if it means I get off with minor injuries.
Sending good thoughts for your daughter, and enjoy your anniversary trip!

Whoa, that is a scary one. Glad to hear your daughter Amy is out of the hospital. Best wishes on her speedy recovery. Way more serious wreck than the one I was in late March of this year. That one $7200 to repair my car and $5000 in dental - other driver's insurance covered it. Still ended up loosing a molar - took damaged from biting down hard when rear ended
I see you are doing the Grand Canyon trip. Good time now, summer heat is over. Weather up there is upper 70s to low 80s in the day and down to the mid 40s at night.

Holy moly!!
Seems like it was luck that it was not the other side of the car that got smashed. (whew!)
Really hope she recovers without any long term effects.
Yeah it is a pain to deal with paperwork and replacing a vehicle, but like you said...so much better than the alternative.
Happy anniversary!

Almost as bad as when a pickup loaded with house hold appliances rear-ended Rebecca's car. She and Ally were okay but her cars rear bumper was in the back seat. Again, she did nothing wrong, the pickup driver was busy playing with her girlfriends hootch-cootie when Rebecca stopped for a driver cutting her off. That driver got a big ticket as a police officer happened to be right behind him.
You are right, vehicles are replaceable, children are not.

Yikes! Glad she's not hurt worse and hope she doesn't have any lingering issues from the concussion!
Reminds me of the day-trip I, my parents, and my sister took up into the mountains to visit a small lake this past week.
I drove on the way back and a light went yellow on the highway as we were approaching the intersection.
Forgetting there was a semi behind us, I braked hard and was able to stop just short of ending up in the intersection.
*HOOOOONK* The semi-driver fortunately had a large enough shoulder to pull aside onto in their own emergency-stop braking to avoid us and avoid blowing into the intersection.
I suspect they were expecting us to go through the yellow and would have blown through the red behind us. May have also been following us too closely.
My parents, sitting in the back seat, would have likely been badly injured or worse if the semi-driver hadn't avoided hitting us.
As it was, we both sat there side-by-side in awkward silence, the stench of burnt rubber and hot brakes in the air, until the light changed and I scooted off quickly to give them room to get back in the lane proper.
I will say, I was very alert for the rest of that drive! XD
