"Hello Sleepy One, did you just wake up? The dappled light of early morn already shifting through the leaves."
He reached out a delicate hand, lifting the tiny, fluffy head of his companion. Looking into the fuzz obscured face of his Childe, seeing so much hope- faithful to the worth of any sacrifice.
"Good morning to you too, Sleepy One."
Answering an unsaid greeting for, inside, he knew no answer would be forthcoming. Even in silent interaction, the slight bristling of hair or pause in petal munching, helped him to know his little companion was listening.
"Here," He plucked the flower which the caterpillar was making a meal of. "Eat from these, the youngest of buds. Their soft beauty is meant only to bloom and fade, falling to the ground like tough leaves." On little legs it inched off the tiny bright yellow petals onto the velvety-pink rose bud. That enthusiastic desire to grow, shed that limitation of the earth even when the trade off is in length of days.
Tagfalter watched in silence, shafts of light raining down, warming his face; Reminding him of his own youthful stage. In warmth there is hope but in cold of night the outcome is uncertain, dangerous to a lost youth. He mourned knowing that this time of tranquil watch would have to end when pupa entered metamorphose, casting off one set of skin to become something new; Becoming a new life and letting go of what was before.
One death for a new life.
His Childe would have no more use for him, being more than an insignificant form tied to earth, having that grander purpose which he could no longer fulfill. But he had played his part and would continue to do so if that role had any value or some reason.
No longer a butterfly, wings ripped off; pixie dust of no more power when dreams, pinned like a beautiful specimen, serve only to remind us of what one is not.
I felt it needed a bit of a story even though it isn't perfect and I suck at lighting.
Tagfalter is the brown and mint creature and the Little One is the wee caterpillar, also I took out the orange and ladybug because they were taking away from the focus point and adding distraction. *Shrug*
I have more for this story but it isn't even really close to being done as of yet XD
