They can be pests... though for a person like me whom likes critters, they're just amusing to have around, and I don't consider them a nuance.

Elk, on the other hand, I've seen in great number and also pretty close. I was walking along at night and was advised to cross over to the other side of the street to keep my distance from an unseen male. I might have been a couple feet away from him if I hadn't crossed. No idea what he would have done. These guys were running away from an old lady on a bike or keeping their distance from a ginger kitty.

Oh hey, totally reasonable response. I mean, deer are one thing, but Elk are another... A very BIG another thing!
With that respects, I and other locals are glad we don't have any around. Deer can be pests enough... Elk would be SUPER annoying at best, dangerous at worst!!

I lived in the country for 5 years and I would go out and see a dozen or so in my yard. I would set on the deck and talk to them. And they would just look at me and keep eating.
I loved that time. It was all quiet and fun.

These are rather calming to watch doing their thing, for sure!

I live out here on the East Coast and the whitetails just take over the place. Sometimes when I walk out to the car they'll snort at me, but usually I'm ignored.

Mule deer around my neighborhood. They think the golf course is an all you can eat salad bar. Then the mountain lions see that as an all you can eat Venison Sashimi place... The fun of being out in the sticks next to wild lands

I myself am not fully sure of the details, but the jest of it all is that some Maharaja from India gifted some to our royals, namely King Kamehameha and we've had these deer as feral wanderers ever since. All this was supposedly circa 1800 or so.

As for Elk... Geez those are big critters! xD
A Kia is NOT that small, I mean, even a modern BMW-Mini or a Fiat500 is still pretty big.

Ah, I had a feeling it was some 19th century weirdness. Lets send animals all over the place and see what happens. Oh those cow elk are 500 to 600 pounds. I'd parked next to some tasty landscaping. Coworker had one of those big bull Elk walk up to him on the job.
