Old lady Kass has been through a lot in her life; many things accomplished, many risks taken, and some of them have in turn taken from her. But like Figgins, she is at heart, a survivor. These days, she wears her crooked tail, her missing eartip, and prosthetic leg with great pride. The ear jewelry and leg replacement are of very fine craftsmanship and materials, of course!
Though her body is relatively younger than that of Patriarch Figgins, her mind and lifespan is older than the vast majority of yinglets who have ever lived; and more each day, she found herself feeling a bit of a generational disconnect with the younguns. The gap between her experience and refined intellect and that of the average yinglet is a wide valley. But there is one individual with whom she felt she could truly be herself, and be appreciated for the aspects of herself that she values most.

I am curious: has Kass spent more time as a yinglet in this AU, or did zat zhing make them 25 (yinglet) instead of the yinglet equivalent of their original age? Based on the dialog I'm leaning towards the former.
But yeah, this one is absolutely amazing, Val. You are so good at establishing personality and history in the space of something as small as two little vignettes. The prosthetics are absolutely beautiful.

GaH. These characters have so much personality bleeding out of them and all over the page! You sir are a talented writer, not just for creating a unique fantasy setting but for populating it with characters that feel very real and tangible, with believable histories and emotions. Truly some great wordcraft to appreciate here.
Also I really your skyrim series because it has really big boobies and everyone is horny. 8)

Something feels off about these recently to me. Feeling to know more about Kass and how he doesn't identify as any of these. They are different characters that just look vaguely like Kass but not Kass. Because Kass is still a human man shoved into a female yinglet body. So much of the trans-experience of being disconnected from self. The body's urges against the mind's identifiers. I just can't see this as Kass.
Yeahhh these are less "canon-realistic (at this point in the story, at least)" scenarios, as much as "idealized versions of Kass by various Patriarchs," and those pretty much all would only follow a line where Kass got used to the change and begun leaning towards acceptance and acclimation somewhat early on.
This actually feels like a good opportunity to ask a question that's been nagging the back of my head since I first read just how much younger Yinglets are when they die than humans. Namely, is Kass playing by Yinglet lifespan standards, or has 'e retained a human lifespan, even with the Yinglet body? Or perhaps somewhere between? I actually think it would be quite interesting if Kass's nature as a former Human allows 'em to live longer than most Yinglets. Could even be a plot at some point, where Vizlet or some other Yinglet notices Kass is aging slower. And maybe if Kass can ever be convinced to have kids, Kass's children might be a touch longer lived as well. Or not. I like learning lore, so please share!
This AU is also fascinating. Here too Kass accepted her new life but instead of living wildly here she put his intelligence and experience as a human to excellent use to fulfill his new role in the Yinglet society. Here she is an older lady, worn, but elegant and stately. With everything and a partner at his intellectual level with whom to enjoy his golden years.
I still think Kass would be an excellent successor as the next matriarch of the Enclave. If only she didn't have so many existential dilemmas and clashes from her previous masculine identity.

Feel this is the one that least dissrespect kass.
In each otheralternative there is kinda a role and personnality forced on kass. While there it fit the most Kass's established personnality and could foresee kass end up like that in the future ... except she's a noble granny right now lol :p
Kinda think there is one possibility left : Kass as a joyful average yinglet with 30 IQ

The impression I get is the majority of Yinglets are probably in the 90 to 100 IQ range with the noted outliers on either end being really smart and really dumb. What really hampers them is their lack of experience and inability to focus. They're basically early adolescent at around eight months old and are basically fully adult at around two. So very few have any sort of life experience AND they have short attention spans due to being naturally twitchy and hyperactive by human standards. Kass is strange in that regard. Going by recent dialogue, he's biologically a late adolescent/young adult female who would be the equivalent of two years old with 25 years of life experience in his head. He still has to deal with powerful Yinglet impulses, but his experience in war of controlling powerful emotions like fear have given him an incredible willpower by Yinglet standards.
Nah, 90-100 is way too optimist toward the yinglets, because that's litterally human average
an average of 80-90 would already be more realist while still being generous toward our little sentient mammals.
And you have working humain, living in our society, who have IQ as low as 70, oh yes they probably do some stuff dumb much more offten than regular ones, but they still manage to pass as non-dumb humans most of the time.
Also there is a difference between knoweldge and comprehension, for a classic exemple someone know than others might not know what they know ... and some people (and most animal) don't ...and for the humain who don't it's not even a matter of knoweldge, they just CAN'T understand that concept, it's not a matter of 5 years of exeprience or 60. (well.. children learn this notion, but that's because their brain is underdevelopped until that point)
Obviously yinglets had showed the understanding of this notion, but it's just to illustrate my point it's not because a yinglet would live longer and learn stuff than he would reach an high IQ.
And yes, they do had hyperactivity and shorter life, but we've seen instance where it's clearly a lack of intellect from some.
honnestly, i'll rather put yinglet intellect in the 55-80 range, with huge variation that can make a non-negligeable portion of them reach the 80-100+
(anyway I think Valsalia portrayed the yinglets a bit smarter than at the beginning of the serie )

So...is it canon that yinglets can metabolize wine, but not beer, which is grain-based and therefore poison? I mean, they'd probably only drink it for the flavor, since no wine-buzz could compare with a slug-high.
And I've been wondering, what exactly does Figgins actually do? We've seen what (almost) enclave-sanctioned yinglet trade looks like, and it was Lopin selling dead stuff, save for Zat Zhing, which would have gone for tuppence had Kass not been a big tipper. It makes absolutely no sense for a yinglet ever to sell slime-meat of any kind, because there is nothing money can buy that is more valuable than an incredibly delicious source of sustenance that also gets you high and keeps you healthy, and except for Lippie, we haven't seen the production of any tradable goods. There also wasn't much sign in the enclave of imported Val Salian merchandise, not counting the rug that was a gift from the Trademaster. Chakki and Kattajack seem to have things at the level of subsistence hunting and farming, and even a Poak-prepared wormy-wrap can't keep very long. So, as Patriarch of Trade, it really doesn't seem like there'd be a lot of work for Figgins. Or is that the point, and the position is more a sinecure for his old age, while affording him the power as Patriarch to leverage the wisdom of his long years?

Oh they can do beer, since it's no longer in an absorptive, solid form which could clot!
And yeah, he's mainly the "local wise old guy to ask about stuff" these days, but he is in charge of teaching the girls and some of the males basic math, and make sure the enclave isn't getting ripped off in the occasional trades it makes with the local humans for things like basic supplies and trained services, like smithed objects.
