So, this is a super exciting piece for me, as it had been a concept I wanted to properly draw for awhile. I tried once before and I don't know if I ever uploaded it. This second attempt went from a standing pose to a sitting pose and so many things came out super cool. The old fashion coffin nails in the noose giving it a spiked collar appearance, the little damned souls in the lantern, the anatomy on the skeletal bits, the over all feel of the pose. THIS BECAME MY FIRST TATTOO, that's how much I loved it and the artist I went to preserved quite a lot of the original sketch. I also had to incorporate my favorite Edgar Allan Poe work into it by having 'Nevermore' on the scythe which also helps denote death as a raven and not a crow.
Anyway, the theme behind it is Death offering a noose like a dom offering a collar to a sub, to submit is to acknowledge death as a controlling factor but to also be in a position of knowing death is not actively seeking your demise. Death is a friend that welcomes you to the afterlife and only when it's your time. So wearing the collar is acknowledging that death also guides you away from time to time. Personally had a few close calls in my life, so the idea expressed by this piece was a major factor of why it became my first tattoo.
