Double Furmula E Champion! (+Story)
"Three seasons of Furmula E since it's conception, and already the series has it's first ever back-to-back two time world champion! We present this World Drivers Championship trophy to Ordagova Nevarol!"
This image commemorates my lead Furmula E driver receiving his second WDC trophy for Furmula E after another unbelievable comeback in the last two races of the season, emulating almost exactly what he did the year before where he jumped from 4th in the championship to 1st when the final chequered flag fell.
---
Ordagova Nevarol was born in Guatemala but grew up in Mexico pursuing a karting career before moving to Japan were be found his place in single seater motorsport at a young age. He quickly rose through the ranks until he reached the pinnacle series of the region; SuperFurmula.
He joined the grid in 2017, but switched to Equinox Team IDQK in 2018 when his potential was realised and then proven when he went on to win the driver's championship that year; and then repeated it in 2019 and 2020 with a young Jack Dawling by his side. Unfortunately after the 2020 season, the team decided to retire from the championship at their peak, finding no profit in remaining in the championship anymore, potentially a victim of their own success.
Having been unexpectedly dropped from SuperFurmula, and not yet catching the eyes of the Furmula One paddock where he was determined to reach; rumours began to circulate of a new championship being created focused on battery technology in the form of electric race cars. Seeing this as either his big breakthrough or a waste of time, he had little time or choice to make up his mind when he was approached by Raindrop who invited Ordagova to be one of their two drivers for their new RCG Motorsport team. With the inaugural season approaching he accepted and was paired up with famed rally driver Reynaldo Símon who had came out of retirement to help drive the creation of the electric series.
The first Furmula E season in 2020-21 was far from perfect; Ordagova secured a total of 7 podiums out of 14 races for the team, including the inaugural race, and even secured pole, fastest lap and race win at what he considered as close as possible to his home race in Mexico City. The team safely finished 3rd in the constructors and he safely finished 3rd in the driver's standings, having difficulty getting the most out of the electric race car, being used to more traditional engines through his life up to this point.
Season two, the 2021-22 Furmula E season, was only one race longer, and only rewarded Ordagova with an additional podium to go with it, but this was in the form of an additional win. He found his footing a little more quickly as he experimented more with the car and adapting his diving style which netted him a victory in Malaysia which shot him and the team up to lead of both championships for the first time. But after this point both he and the team flew under the radar as they fought for every position and point they could get in their battle against Barnabas Walstein & FMW i Crawford and Mozilla Redwood & Wellfeet eRacing. Victory in either championship was not expected when they landed in Canada for the final weekend where two races would be completed to finish the season. But after an impressive second place from Ordagova on the Saturday race, and a win on the final race on Sunday; Ordagova Nevarol & RCG Motorsport found fortune in the two drivers' and constructors' leaders failing to perform allowing Ordagova to snatch the driver's championship at the last race by 7 points and RCG Motorsport snatched the constructor's championship by only 2 points.
2023 was the third season of Furmuale E, and like in the previous two; Ordagova started off the season with his traditional third place. The calendar was extended again by another race but the number of podiums he achieved remained the same as last with 8, but this time he scored three wins; in Spain, Monaco and Canada. He did also finish 1st on the road in Azerbaijan but due to an incident where he lost the car on the exit of turn 15 where he was lapping a slow Kaya De Bruyn he was awarded a time penalty which dropped him down to 4th and off the podium (he later made it up to Kaya by treating her to a shopping spree the following weekend at the Furmula One Monaco GP). He fought hard to try and retain his crown but it grew more and more unlikely, until his consistency and patience paid off where he got a string of great results in the final few races that put him within touching distance of the championship again after his Victory in Canda, with a double header finale held this year around Donnington Park in the UK. Scoring pole and a second place finish on the first race whilst his championship rivals failed to turn up propelled him to the lead of the driver's championship for the first time that season, and all he had to do now is just finish ahead of Jacobo Obando, and don't loose too many points to Isabelle LaDuke, a fan-favourite wonderchild that upset the pecking order all season. Ordagova scored pole again for the final race, and just needed to hold the lead; but failed to do so into turn 1 where he took on damage and had to nurse the car for the remainder of the race. Isabelle was past him and was leading the race for the majority of it as the snake slipped down the order; but fortune favoured the defending champion as Isabelle couldn't keep the lead and started slipping too, falling just off the podium in 4th; and Ordagova had held on just enough to win the championship a second time.
Ordagova Nevarol's future is still uncertain. Since his first Furmula E championship he's been snapped up by Conda Rising Sun Racing's Furmula One team as their reserve driver, and will be making his race debut in Bahrain later this year as he deputises for Trey Goodwin who will go off to do Bathurst. Conda's two current drivers already have multi-year contracts and sit 4th and 5th in the drivers' championship, rewarding Conda Rising Sun Racing a pleasing 2nd in the constructors', but pressure from Conda's parent company to put Ordagova Nevarol in the car full time in 2024 grow heavier everyday and could potentially become only a matter of time until an announcement is made...
