With a button press, the machines that had been sustaining civilization were turned off. The cities had been emptied. The crops were long gone.
It was possible that a few stray survivors might try to eke out a living in the wilderness. He hoped they might. That was how he lived, once. This world had ripped him from his, and he was only returning the favor.
He was only returning things to how they should be.
To honor the spirit of this new old world, on a high mountain he erected a temple—the last one that would ever be built. There, he commissioned one of the last remaining artists to depict the force that had righted all.
