I assumed that she resumed her duties looking after the moon from the newly-remodeled Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters.
My question is why she reverted to a smaller, younger pony after Nightmare Moon was defeated by the Elements of Harmony? And will she stay that way or "grow up" again?

From bits and pieces I picked up during that 2-part episode, I got the impression that she was asleep for that thousand years.
Either she's now essentially a thousand years younger than Celestia, or a lot of her power was drained away with the purging of the nightmare from her body.
If the first is the case, She may never quite catch up to her sister. If the second is the case, if she had lost enough power, she might appear to be like any other mortal pegasus pony -with an added horn.

The gag is based very loosely on something that once happened to me...

Princess Luna won't be showing up anymore for season one. I've read up on some of the character bios/episode guides and there have been hints that she'll show up in future episodes. The main reason she hasn't been seen since the pilot episodes is because most of the stories take place during the day. Since Luna is in charge of the night, I think she's asleep during the day or something along those lines.
