For the longest time, I had no way in which to create much of a backstory for Yosh and his family. It wasn't until Lanny and I became friends that the O'Ducky family FINALLY became more than just a collection of characters who did silly things in random places.
***
I've written a handful of stories about Cody, the beaver boy in this picture, and how he had made friends with Yosh when both sets of his grandparents finally put aside their shared disapproval of their children, Duckers O'Ducky and Mellony Juicyfruit, going against their wishes by dating, getting married, and having a child that was neither pure duck nor Yoshi.
Yosh, being nearly three years old at this time, had no idea that his grandparents, along with much of his extended family, did not want anything to do with him, his mom, or his dad. It was only through a chance conversation with Duckers platypus relatives, who resided in the southern, coastal city of Baywater, that the process of healing was able to start.
***
After flying to visit with the Platts family in Baywater, which is when Yosh met his older cousin, Penelope, the final arrangements were made for the long awaited reunion between the O'Ducky and Juicyfruit families and their exiled children.
***
Larry's Crossing was once a thriving city that brought prosperity to many who made a living in the harvesting, processing, and distribution of lumber. However, just like other parts of the country that thrived on lumber, steel, and coal, the lower cost and increased availability of foreign labor and acquisition of such resources made Larry's Crossing a shadow of its former self within the time in which Duckers and Mellony were born and raised. The five years since the duck and dino couple had last been home only saw more depression as more jobs were lost, businesses closed, and nature began to reclaim what had been lost.
***
With the airport closest to Larry's Crossing being closed by the time Duckers and Mellony had finished High School, the couple decided it would be best to take a family road trip to introduce their son, Yosh, to his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who still resided in the rundown town. Going by car also worked out for Mellony as, by this time, could be laying the egg of their second child at any time.
***
The reunion went well and, as can be seen here, Yosh made himself a new friend in Cody. The opportunity to bravely explore in a far more laid back environment that was in a far more warm and humid climate providing more opportunities for the dino-duckling to see the world and know that, despite how it may have felt at times, there were as many, if not more, people who wanted to be his friends over belittling him for being the child of an inter-species couple.
There is far more lore to explore thanks to Lanny's building of what I've come to refer to as '[i]The Lannyverse'. I have and will cover as much as i can with Yosh and his family, but you would be best to see the genuine depth and detail behind Lanny's places and faces by visiting his User page and browsing his ever growing gallery of creative content.

A few corrections about Larry's crossing.
It was always rural, though parts are indeed abandoned. And Larry's crossing in itself is just a series of roads that cross the Alabama-Georgia state lines. ^^;
And among the crossing are two small towns. Emma, Georgia (known for its truck stop that is still used often), and Dewitt, Alabama (which is an abandoned ghost town, which where most of the industry was, such as logging)
But other than, everything checks out!

Thanks for the additional clarification, Lanny. I've fallen behind on the updated lore you created for larry's Crossing since the time when I had been writing the stories with Yosh and Cody going off on their misadventures.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on what makes this work by Lanny extra cute and super adorable. Lanny always puts lots of detail into his work and what you shared in your comment adds to what Lanny had told me about it before I made the post of this work to share what cuteness he had made.
Oh! I liked so much how this short post told us several things of the O'Ducky family. It seems that Larry's Crossing is great place with a lot of interesting stories and things to learn, it reminds me pretty much to places like the town of Stardew Valley, calm, pacific, but full of stories. I really really up know more about this family, all this backstory sounds really nice!
I am glad you like it. The story of Yosh and his family has only gotten more detailed as my friends have been kind enough to share their own thoughts on how the little dino-duckling could go about interacting with their own characters.

A very abridged story is...
Mellony Juicyfruit and Duckers O'Ducky fell in love and did not care what anyone in their town thought about their relationship. In order to feel free from the unhappy opinions of their disapproving families and fellow townsfolk, the Yoshi and Duck couple jumped into their car and headed to a place they heard was more accepting to those like themselves.
Duckers made friends with a photographer, Mr. Gonzales, , who was a Yoshi who had a nearly one year old son. This little, orange Yoshi was who would become Yosh's first friend, Nishi Gonzales.
After nearly 3 years, as it is important to share how Mellony was preparing to lay an egg when she and Duckers left Larry's Crossing, a distant relative of Duckers who lived in Baywater reached out to help reunite the broken families. This relative was a platypus who had a baby girl who was a few months older than Yosh. Her name was Penelope Platts.
By the time Yosh's little sister, Winry, had hatched from her egg, Mellony and Duckers' families decided to welcome back their children so they could be a part of their grandchildren's lives. This is when Yosh would befriend Cody, the beaver boy, who would go on amazing adventures throughout the abandoned buildings and other places that had once been a part of Larry's Crossing's 'Golden age.
Future visits to Baywater and Larry's Crossing would go on to help Yosh make even more new friends who would introduce him to far more than he had gotten to learn from Nishi and his other friends back home. By the time Yosh turned 5 years old, and finally completed his potty training, he had made a lot of new friends. The last one of Lanny's creation being a female griffon by the name of Phoebe Vogelsong. She, like Yosh, was hatched by two parents who were of a different species. However, unlike Yosh, Phoebe's parents did not try and encourage their hybrid child to be all she possibly could be as a fusion of a lion father and eagle mother. This caused her to fall behind developmentally. Fortunately, as Yosh had shown no willingness to go potty in anything except for his diapers, Phoebe would meet the dino-duckling in a Special Education / Life Skills preschool. Yosh, once he stopped being dependant on his diapers, was allowed to enter into the regular schools for children served by the public education system. Phoebe would not be so lucky, but this did not mean she and Yosh did not see each other again.
Flash forward to present day, Yosh now lives with Phoebe. Yosh was devastated when his Tina Bear abruptly ended their marriage and thought he could never be happy again. A chance encounter with Phoebe made him realize how he and Phoebe could help each other to be happy. They currently, until someone helps come up with new ideas for me to use, live simple lives that allow both to enjoy their diapers while putting their talents in the creative and performance arts together to help others who have struggled in their lives just because they were 'different'. :)

It is amazing what 15 years of being a part of the Babyfur / Little community can do for how one sees the world. I really enjoy taking parts of my actual life, creatively modifying them to make the story more exciting, and showing how having a disability / being 'different' does not mean that you cannot find happiness while making the world a better place for others, too. :)

Sorry for not answering before Yosh. I wanted to read properly all your explanation without getting lost.
Wow! It is a whole story as I can see. A really interesting mix of species and characters having a nice time together. I could almost imagine the whole environment in my head, like a kind of small community full of love and fun. I could imagine how all of them living in a kind of rural or small towns, they had simple lives, average jobs and a quiet place to live with their growing families. I could even imagine how the kids had a lot of adventures a bit too far from where their parents would like they were, but they enjoyed walking around every afternoon until sunset. All the mix of species confused my a bit, I'm not sure if I follow so good all the characters, but I guess I got the most important parts.
I also imagine all this backstory is based in your own life experience Yosh. I could also find some elements of shows like Franklin in this story, as well as videogames like Animal Crossing or Paper Mario: THe Thousand Year Door, I guess you find inspiration in all of that as well as other things too. Really interesting.

You are 100% correct, Sweetie. My parents grew up in the same small town / old coal mining community that had begun to lose much of its population and businesses by the time my sister and I were born. My father's side of the family looked down upon my mother's family as a result of her parents being less wealthy than my dad's family. What brought them together is how my mother and father were seen as the proverbial 'Black Sheep' of their respective families.
When my sister and I were each born, both sides of the family placed the blame on my mother for how Winry and I came into the world with Glaucoma. (The theories, lack of empathy / support, , and very outdated ways of thinking how children born with disabilities should be cared for / raised was to the point that I am truly surprised my mother and father never gave up on Winry and I being the best that we could be.).
***
I remember spending more time with my grandparents on my mother's side than I did with my grandparents on my father's side. They took Winry and I camping in places that were deep within the forests of Pennsylvania. It was during my visits with my mother's mom and dad that I got to see and explore places like those I described when Yosh and his family visit 'Larry's Crossing'. (My dad's father, by the time I was 5 years old, started to show genuine love and concern for Winry and I. Although we did not spend as much time with them, my grandfather made sure to help out in any way he could when it came to attending eye appointments, surgical interventions, etc.).
***
As I never wanted Yosh to have a condition that robbed him of his eyesight, I did want to make sure Yosh had something about him that made his existance one that would be looked down upon. This lead me to make Yosh a 'hybrid' instead of being just a duck, or dinosaur. :)
***
What each character is as an animal does not have as much importance as how everyone Yosh knows and/or interacts with is based on real life experiences, inspirations, and the friends I have made since using Yosh to be more open and honest with myself since joining 'FA back in September of 2008.

That sounds really nice. I can see that your life and your family's life either hasn't been easy, but you have had nice moments too and that's great. I like how the fact that all of the characters are animals is a great way to make differences less important, since all of them are different from baseline.
Oh, I understand so good that part of being the "black sheep" of the family. Being atheist in a family of 99% of Catholics so as the city where I live is not easy at all, believe me...

Being a 'Black Sheep' can be very frustrating when all you want to do is be understood and accepted for who and what you are by friends, family, and pretty much anyone you may interact with. Thankfully, as we have online places where we can find 'acceptance', 'understanding', 'empowerment', and 'community' for being who we are and liking what we like, we do not have to allow ourselves to be sad for too long when so many other people around the world are excited to be a part of those things that bring us joy.

For me, writing stories on here and FiM Fiction has allowed me to 'take control' of times in my life where I experienced physical and/or psychological traumas. Using Yosh, his family, and his friends has allowed me to rewrite / take control over many bad memories. This has helped me heal and stop feeling so horrible when something may happen to cause my memory to recall a bad time in my life. It is truly amazing how being the 'creator' of your own art, stories, etc. can allow you to make sure something truly traumatizing can have a much happier ending / outcome. :)
