A pen and ink hawk that I've been working on for quite some time now. A stippled background and a feathery predator in the foreground.
I apologize right now for the pitiful scan. The real-life image is much better. But as always my scanner is not big enough to handle the full sheets of Bristol that I use and since I'm going to mat and frame this for possible sale, I cannot cut it down for the scanner. So you'll get the idea of what the soaring bird looks like. I cleaned up the image as best as I could and it is at least viewable.
Soar with the raptors, but beware those talons! ;)

Hey there gator! I didn't expect to hear from you so soon. Much thanks, indeedy, for your very sweet reptilian comments. *hugs* I wish I could get a better scan of this and then the detail of the stippled sky would "really" stand out. I'm gleaning every ink technique I can to do something a little better than before. Thanks again, pretty reptile. :)
Yes yes yes! I even have a HawkWind album. How could I have not seen that reference?! Duh! Again, thanks, Sedric for being so kind.
Didn't HawkWind do Master of the Universe? Perhaps that is what I should be playing in the background when next I work on the Overbird. ;)

Much thanks for the comment, Skythe! Yes the right wing is black (via brush pen) as in the photo reference I used there was only a hint of light color. In pen and ink this effect enhances the "3-D" look of the piece and makes the bird stand out from the background. The scanner butchered most of my stippling detail and of course part of the top of the picture was cut off; it's a much taller piece in rl.
