An idea I had a while ago, after seeing how much the house building npc would get in your way while renovating your home in TotK. So to solve that problem while letting the minish make their GRAND return, this is what I came up with. He could even volunteer to be the one keeping it clean when you're away, like a little invisible housekeeper!~ (that way you don't have some guy just looming outside your place all hours of the day.)

OOGH my intense desire to see the minish again is tempered heavily by the knowledge that they wouldn't be these specific mousey designs because 1. Capcom lol, and 2. they redesign literally everything with each new game (except the gorons mostly, how have these rock potatoes escaped various horrid redesigns unscathed?!)

You n' I are on the same wavelength lol, I've also been clamorin' for deku ever since Majora's Mask gave them so much worldbuildy goodness. They're basically woody octoroks, though, and the koroks fill the Plant People niche, I guess that's why they haven't come back :( We can keep hoping...
