The pillars of stone stood tall, emerging from the freshly fallen snow. The stones upon the precipice were arranged in a semi circle, their edges smooth from centuries or wear. The stones were natural formations, but their placement was anything but natural. They had been upturned and buried in the frozen earth to hold them in place by some unknown person or persons. Their purpose was plain enough, they bore the runes of his people. These stones were erected to honor the gods, to ask for blessings and boons to survive the harsh land and to bring bounty.
A gust of wind rustled the branches of pine trees, shaking the snow from their needles as it fell in a fine, mist like powder to gather on the forest floor. The wind sounded almost like a howling wail of some distant beast as it passed through the runestones. The mountain Orlendr now stood atop was hidden away in the northern most recesses of the valley. This site clearly held significance to whoever had erected it, but it stood in such a remote corner of the land. He wondered when last someone had paid their respects in this place. The path up the mountain was broken and unmaintained, it very well could have been decades or even centuries since last someone had stood amidst these runestones. Had Orlendr not heard its “call”, it likely would have remained undisturbed for another number of untold years.
A question burned within his mind, his singular focus that plagued his thoughts. Who had built this site? These stones were old and had stood here for some time. His people had only been in this valley for less than a full lifetime, many who had made the journey all those years ago still lived and could recall their homeland across the sea. But these stones seemed as though they had stood for centuries, they were much too old to have been built by his people. The voyage across the sea had been a unique endeavor, there were no tales speaking of any of his forebears having attempted the journey before. There were no signs of a culture such as his having ever existed in the valley. None save for these stones in the far flung north where no one was likely to ever tread, a place of worship reserved for the gods alone.

From what i can think and guess, these runestones have seen all sorts of events, people, battles for the justice, climate changes and probably heard a countless number of tales through the centuries. Today the handsome Orlendr is wondering about who had built this holy site, and if across the sea still exsist people like his own old inhabitants who were sincerely devoted to the gods of this abandoned place, eternally covered from snow and ice. In his heart Orlendr has still hopes, and thanks to his shaman spirit he knows one day will appear someone ready to pray and pay homage to this place of worship. ^-^
