Learned of this device on TKOR channel a few years ago. Part of an aluminum smelting furnace set-up. If such a makeshift blower could be used to fire up charcoal to melt pop cans, then it could be used to get a BBQ grill up to speed quickly. All the parts were scrounged up from thrift stores. We have a hair dryer connected to PVC fittings with duct tape to mate to a length of 1" pipe with a smooth-to-threaded fitting and a piece of 1" steel nipple. Not shown is the 25 or 50-foot power cord needed to supply the power from the nearest available electrical outlet.
Used at a recent furry BBQ meet, getting things up to cooking temperature quickly. A good thing too as everyone was able to get fed before the downpour came and nearly drowned the hot coals.

The LOX facility on the ANGB was about 100' from the base dining hall and fuel depot. It was another 100 yards to the picnic area where the cadet graduation BBQ was held. They used charcoal for the burgers and hotdogs, but getting them fired up took great effort. Eventually, the base cooking staff took over the detail.
