A small errand leads to big trouble for a young feral wolf and her brother.Arctic PackFrost has no problem obeying the rules of her pack. She felt content already as is in her own territory as much as she would when traveling around. However, that doesn't mean others take after her or respect her wishes. Take, for instance, her brother, Tundra. He's no stickler for the rules. In fact, he isn't that fond of rules either. This comes to a head when he gets into trouble with his parents, even for minor infractions.
One particular day, Frost is outside of the den, playing around in the snow. The female wolf is rolling and frolicking around in her frosty white playground, her own little world. She has no idea that her world is about to get turned upside down.
With Frost playing around, Tundra is running up to her, "Frost! Sis, I need to talk to you!" With his sister still playing around, she pays him no attention at first. Then he calls out a bit louder to get her attention, "Frost!!"
"Huh?" The wolfess is belly up in the snow when she finally hears her name being called out. She gets to her feet to see her brother before her. Curious, she inquires, "Yes Tundra? What do you need me for?"
His tail wags mildly; Tundra casually remarks, "Oh nothing; just need to talk to you for a bit." He gives a toothy smile which Frost notices.
Suspicious, Frost wonders, "What could be so important to talk to me personally about? Is this another one of your mischievous pranks again? Or do you plan on bolting out of our territory again?"
"Frost, you need to relax. I don't plan on deserting any time soon. It's just an errand I want you to tag along with me on." Tundra sits across from his sister while informing her of why he wants her attention. Now it is clear - a simple errand to run. Should be easy, right?
"What kind of errand do you want me to go with you on and why should I go with you? You can handle being alone while traveling." In making her return statement, Frost slips in a hint of her suspicion towards her brother - why would Frost tag along with her brother on something so simple if it's within their territory? It shouldn't be that hard or slow to run a simple task.
Frost's suspicion grows when Tundra reveals his errand, "I found some new items that my friend had gotten for me a couple days ago and he's hidden them somewhere around here. It's not that far out."
Taking in this information, Frost narrows her eyes in suspicion, "How far is this package you want so badly?"
"Like I said, Frost, that stuff is not that far." Tundra insisted. He stands up and begins to leave, "You should join me! Two heads are better than one!"
Finally convinced, Frost joins her brother, though she warns him, "Remember, we are not allowed to go outside our territory. The consequences are very heavy!"
Tundra scoffs, "It's not like Mom and Dad will find out. They're always busy!"
"Yeah, busy making sure things are going fine. Even on their rounds, they'll notice something is wrong!" Frost reminds her brother of their parents' usual patrol routes. Especially near the borders is where it's dangerous. Or so they claim.
Unfazed by the warning, Tundra reassures Frost, "Don't worry! We'll be out of there in a flash!"
"I hope so. Otherwise, it's your hide we're gonna be looking at!" Frost makes her biting remark perfectly clear. Roaming out of territory carries a stiff punishment, a penalty that some consider too harsh. Hopefully, these two Arctic wolves will avoid that penalty.
~~~~~Their journey doesn't take them far, but it did make Frost suspicious. They are now facing a forested area that is right outside their territory. Aware of the charges, Frost begins to turn back, "I think we should head back. No telling what's on the other side."
Tundra, however, is unrelenting. He insists, "Aww, come on sis! It's just gonna be a quick pickup. I mean, what could go wrong?" What Tundra doesn't realize is that another wolf pack has made their home in that forest. The Greenwood Pack is exceptionally fierce in protecting not only their members, but also their turf as well. Still, Tundra and a reluctant Frost push on, but it is only a matter of time before they are discovered.
Making their way into the forest, Tundra begins digging to uncover what his friend stashed behind for him with Frost keeping him lookout. But it doesn't take long for their scents to give them away. Anxiously, Frost whispers to her brother in a frantic fervor to hurry up. "Tundra, grab whatever it is you're looking for and let's leave! We need to get out of here!"
Tundra retrieves a bag of special herbs for medicinal healing but it is too late. When Frost and her brother turn to leave, a Greenwood wolf spots them and confronts them, ready to attack. "What are you doing here?? This is Greenwood territory!"
The pair bolts out of the forest, leaving behind their rival. And once they make it back to Arctic Mountain territory, another complication. They will now have to break the news to their parents about wandering off, even though it is no big deal since they did not go so far out - it was only a short distance away.
Later on that evening, Frost finds out that those special herbs are meant for her exclusively, disguised as a surprise which Tundra wanted to keep from her. As for the situation with the Greenwood pack? While Tundra and Frost were both reprimanded for going out of bounds, no problems were found as of yet, except for trespassing. But while Frost got let go with a warning, her brother suffered a stuffer punishment - he is now an omega among the ranks due to his carelessness and lack of respect for rules which could have led to him and his sister getting killed. For Frost, however, it is a vivid reminder that following the rules and keeping within the confines of your pack's territory is the difference between life and death.
