I´ve done sprites in this style before but they were mostly made to look good how I usually draw. Here however, is a true bit restriction that would totally work on an NES. And I know because I already added them into the game!

After a number of tries and learning things, I touched up my sprite from that and made BMP files for all characters as those are easiest to copy into game. Just note there are a few lkater edits and presentational things on this particular submission, like the walking bounce being added by the game engine itself and sprite mirrors like Drizzle leaf ear that might not work with how most forward sprites are done (the victory sprites in particular mostly didn't work out so well based on that.) The hex codes seem to be what is used in most editors so I included those. Other than that, I gave up with tails on the big sprites mostly because they can´t work outside of the normal bounds. Main thing I could think of to do it without having to hack in more tiles, is offsetting that strange white box tile that is placed behind the characters eyes to instead follow behind the second highest tile, but that´s still some less artistic hacking work, and it may or may not animate well from that.
So it was only the gameplay sprites changed, but I´m not even exaggerating when I say I was in a surreal trance all night and woke up in some kind of lucid state at what I had just played. Not changing the cutscene graphics or anything actually makes it even funnier to me, like I just invaded Wart´s Dream Machine palace without anyone else even noticing or questioning it and slipped away without a trace or expectation. Also funny is the first loss I had was forgetting the Birdo egg can hit you when falling from a wall hit so it looked like the Egg actually smashed me flat with the sprites that I made for it.
