It does seem pretty severe that Donnie would break up with Ruslan over their disagreement over the quality of career that Donnie's favorite actor has had. It's normal for couples to have disagreements, especially on tastes in music and art. I think Donnie should actually apologize to Ruslan for ending their relationship of over such a small facet of opinionated reality. Luckily Ruslan is very open to the concept of forgiveness. Even more interesting is that Donnie is receptive to starting the relationship back up again, but ONLY if Ruslan is the one who asks.

Here's the situation: they're both guilty of breaking up, and now they're both conscience-stricken. To be honest, I wanted to make things a lot tougher than what they turned out to be, but I didn't want to make them break up forever.

Perhaps admitting to each other the fragility of their impulsiveness to break up so easily could act as a bridge to a longer term relationship. I mean to say, opening up and being honest is usually a good first step.
