This was originally uploaded to DeviantArt on February 21, 2022. There are multiple links that you can follow from the original submission, some of which no longer work. This description has been edited from the original."Please consult our scholar about this interesting find. He spends much time studying such trivial things."Alright, now we're actually getting somewhere. And of all things to get drawn, it had to be jumping on a bandwagon. So, last month, my buddy Darenkoopa • @daren_wx had commissioned from churroach, and at the persuasion of [a number of his friends], a tribal version of his Koopa. When it was shared, I kid you not, multiple people were inspired to make one themselves.
...including myself, to which I will continue to blame the four responsible for making such a thing happen (minus the artist).
But hey, it was enough to get me to pick up my iPad and draw something after having a really rough and empty first month in terms of art. When designing this, I was taking cues from each of their tribal outfits for their Yoshis, as well as consulting the likes of [a close friend of mine], who is of Native American descent and recalling details of previous RP sessions, I was able to put together a version of my Yoshi that would exist in a tribal setting.
This version of Doughshi was conjured up thinking of a timeline with fewer technological advancements and/or a place deep in the woods where advanced societies are not known. He retains his squishy and malleable body but likely since baked goods do not see themselves around the village often or at all, this version of Doughshi is known as Sweet-As-Fruit, as his body still exhibits the same properties as cookie dough through touch, taste and smell, but because there is not a common food that passes through for villagers to compare it to, the next best thing is fruit.
In this time and place, Sweet-As-Fruit still follows some of my own personal characteristics, but is spun in a way that fits the setting: he is incredibly studious and curious about everything and anything that the village has not yet seen. The Chief and his fellow villagers often turn to him when it comes to learning about something new, as Sweet-As-Fruit practically has a small library and museum in his hut. You might see him reading any books that make their way into the village to figure out what they're teaching about the outside world, playing with any items or artifacts that may have some functionality, or both; essentially reading through books that might spare knowledge of items that he does have. When he feels that he's learned enough about this or that, he will then gather the villagers to teach them at once. If there is anything new to know about, it's usually Sweet-As-Fruit who is logging it and putting it away for later reference.
Sweet-As-Fruit, much like his prime counterpart, wears very little; in fact, extremely little. He is usually seen wearing a broken monocle on the right side of his face, which has broken glass, but is gold in material. When he does wear something, it's one of three articles: a loincloth, an apron with pockets, or as shown here, a pouch tied around his leg, and is more likely to wear the latter two, as they both provide some form of storage for a small book he carries around. Sweet-As-Fruit is almost always seen carrying that small notebook around and a writing utensil for taking any quick notes to put into a larger book later, or for studying spells. The squishy scholar does have some magical abilities, thanks to presence of his Rainbow Scale, although in this universe, he doesn't quite know why it looks that way or if it has a purpose, or that it is the source of his magic. He often takes lessons for the tribe's wizard, but may end up backfiring such spells on himself; I'm sure you can picture what happens next.
This version of Doughshi is similar in personality to his prime self, in which he is friendly, kind, and helpful to those around him, but here, he is more seclusive and quiet, or can be. Depending on what it is, he's normally engrossed in studying a book or an object, but can still be absent-minded from time to time, possibly the cause of him screwing up his own magic. Sweet-As-Fruit is not one to get loud or get into parties, but would attend one if invited; sometimes the tribe remembers he can be shaped into different things and they use that for whatever event the tribe throws. He has also developed a fear of weaponry, triggered when the tribe had brought in a musket and he was tasked with studying the new weaponry, using a little ball of his own body to act as ammunition when the little metallic pellets were removed; the resulting blast and ricochet caused him to drop it to the ground, and the splatter of his own doughy body splattering impressively on a tree a ways away.
Anyway, it took me a long time to finally get this up! I had been meaning to do so for weeks now, but I just never got around to it. I had a lot of fun thinking this out, as well as trying to find ways to mute my usual color palette for the sake of the setting, and making it look like paint. Again, I wasn't the only one who jumped on this afterwards, some of my other friends ... also have tribal forms up for you to take a look at.
With all that said, thanks for looking and reading! 💕

Not too long ago, EpicFrick had joined the tribe with a Redoshi design of his own, and between him, Yoshr and I, and sharing with each other's ideas between all three characters, we came to the conclusion that Wishing Star resides in the same hut as both Sweet-As-Fruit and Gentle Companion, each of them working together to maintain the tribe's library. One common example of this is thanks to Gentle Companion's artistic skills combined with Wishing Star's ability to project constellations using his staff, they're able to make remarkably accurate star charts.
Because of them all living together, this means Sweet-As-Fruit got a couple new friendship bracelets! The one in front is the exact same as the ones that Gentle Companion wears, while the one behind it is from Wishing Star. Gentle Companion's is yellow and dark red, while Wishing Star's is his general colors of red, orange, and dark blue.
