It's never peaceful at the line of skirmish, be it a sports game or military action. It's the people trying to live uninterrupted lives behind the lines (either side) who want to continue living as they believe they need to that they consider peace. Somehow, this is where nature takes its course, one race, one culture, one religion, one political system, one military-industrial complex, cannot stand preying on another.
You keep peace by maintaining your skirmish line and protecting your civilians against incursion, retaliation, insurrection, and the like. This takes deadly force. History proves cultures that refuse to use deadly force tend to be vanquished, unless they have greatly superior numbers against an inferior and ill-equipped army.
I do not know your kind of war. I come from a world without projectile weapons such as yours, or mass destruction. I was never a part of the great Iksar army of old, but I hear they were glorious, and our race once was so feared, even the name Iksar was seldom spoken. I would have reveled in having that much fear associated with just my racial name alone, causing people to scatter simply by appearing in plain sight.
I am not that kind of person anymore; even my desire to be the epitome of fear loses its sweet taste. I prefer other kinds of reaction and attention now that I am no longer in the iron grip of my old deity, Cazic-Thule, The Faceless, the God of Fear.
I fought only to serve my deity, as maybe some of your suicide bombers may have been motivated in your world. I do not understand it too well. I heard something that said that the civilians are your most bothersome problem when in the military, but also are your chief reason why you are fighting. I haven't a tight grip on this civilian concept, for as Iksars, we all were in service to our nation and our deity. There was no such thing as freedom from conscription to any necessary task required of you throughout your entire life, for even an old lizard acting as instructor or merchant still served, never accumulated wealth, privilege or status.
These are this old lizard's thoughts on peacekeeping. I've never been given such a title, for murder and torture, destruction and terror were virtues for our people to spread, and if I were branded thus in performance of service to Cabilis, these would be badges of honor. Peacekeeper would be the most dubious honorific.

I see a lot of emotional artwork in your gallery, and i dont know why, but this one brought me to tears.
His facial expression is so lonely, so lost...
I dont know why, but it hit my feels so hard, because... im fighting with my major depression, i need no hell, my life IS the hell im never leaving if i should be honest.
I cant left.
My past follows me in nightmares, in RL and im rid of it to be bullied continuing with 31 years.
Im rid of standing up, waking up...
...and beating down the next step i do.
