When a coalition of human forces invaded the already declining Empire of Sirath, the largest country in the newly discovered lands of the cat-like Ajshar, things got ugly real fast. While some territories surrendered peacefully, or even joined the invaders in an attempt to gain independence from the Empire, the lands closer to the capital offered a resistance to the last man.
Enorach and Lars, as soldiers of the Republic of Tresti, joined the coalition forces in what was supposed to be a quick and relatively easy campaign. As the war dragged on for years, and the frustration and cruelty on both sides escalated into acts of unimaginable horrors, they started to go down a pretty dark path. The army they were part of had just effectively ended an entire civilization and slaughtered countless innocents, and they had just two options ahead: either carry the guilt until the end of their days, or try to change things and fix at least partially the devastation they contributed to with their actions.

And yet, can you blame them, per se? The cat, if I'm not mistaken, is a slave and would be killed outright for disobeying his master or master's superior.
The man would be court martialed for disobeying orders. At best he'd be dishonorably discharged, at worst executed for treason, worse if he ran away.
Best way to have avoided it all is to not have enlisted in the first place, assuming propaganda didn't get to them first, or somehow avoid forced conscription.
Failing that, convince enough fellow soldiers to mutiny.

The realities of war, it never ends, it can never be rid of, only reduce when those more powerful than you agree on rules. For as if the war started as just, there are those in it that aren't and try and will make the war as they are.
Wow that kinda came out of nowhere for a picture of a fictional cheetah and human.
I know this is a drawtober, but I kinda want a colored version of this, and also want to give these two enough meals to comfort them for years.
