I wanted to ask if I could get in there with him, but even though the keeper swears he wouldn't hurt a fly, the fact is that if kitty took an odd swipe at me being playful I could end up a half a block away so their policy is no one goes in. I agree though, I still want to play...yeah, I might end up in the hospital, but what a great experience it would be and a hell of a story to tell later.

Yeah, 500 pounds is about the top of the scale. Granted they -can- get bigger than that, but that's the high range for a 'normal' male.

Yeah I'd heard they could get bigger. Though Zamba (I hope you've heard of him) was described as huge, and he was 9 feet long, 528 pounds.

And yeah, obviously it's considerably easier for captive lions to approach that size than it is for wild lions. Even then, 500+ is still a big (and sexy!) boy indeed!

Oh yes, of course, much easier to get bigger when you're safe, protected, and always consistently well fed! Very big and sexy indeed. ^_^

He looked bigger in person than he does in this picture...at least to me he did...his paws were bigger than my hands if I can trust my eyes.

when I first got there him and his sister were playing with a big blue ball...I got lost in the scene and almost forgot to take a picture of it....but I do have one of his sis on here still playing with the ball.
