Okay:
I don't know for sure how new you are to Apophysis, but personally, I render at 20k quality (you can type in your own number). That gives excellent results without taking forever. That is, unless you're making a background-sized fractal. Mine usually take an hour or two, occasionally up to four depending on the complexity and particle detail.
For the filter, I render at 0.3 to help keep the time down; you can adjust it in Post-Render if you have the box checked.
Buffer depth, I leave at 32-bit floating point. You get the quality again without it taking forever.
Those are the main tips. You can also set Apophysis up to make a sound on render completion if you're going to post render. If you have any other questions, just ask me.
I nearly forgot: You can save and name your custom settings so you don't have to retype them for every fractal.
